Doubleday Employee Book Sale copies

Post by BeardedPriest »

Good evening,
I was hoping someone could tell me a little bit about several copies of King novels that I have acquired.

These copies have stamped on the inside cover “Doubleday, Employee Book sale.”

There is no other information on the copyright page other than the dates they were printed.

The stamp is an image of an anchor with the letter D behind it.

This is the copyright page for Firestarter. The book the topic was posted for. I tried to shrink the photo of the outside of the book but can’t seem to get it small enough to fit for the guidelines.

Also forgot to mention that these books do not have dust jackets either.

Doubleday (also known as Berryville Graphics) would stamp overruns and allow employees to purchase pennies on the dollar.

Berryville Graphics used to be a client of mine. I so enjoyed walking through their employee store and finding oddities.

Thank you Ralph. I have Firestarter, 2 copies of Cujo, The Dead Zone, The Stand, Carrie, The Shining and maybe a few more. They are all these employee purchased stamped copies.
So these versions aren’t very collectible then? Is that a correct assumption?

I do know a friend that likes to collect them, so the value is really geared towards the collector.

Some of the Doubleday Employee stamped copies that are stated First Edition on copyright page hold value though.

Hope this helps.
