Ran across this today. I'm trying to decide if Folio will be doing a new Dark Tower edition or not. I'm not very familiar with them. Anyone buy anything from them that can comment or can anyone verify the news below?

Re: The Dark Tower and Folio publishing ?
Through other discussions, I do believe Folio will be releasing their publishing style of The Darktower.
Many mixed feelings being discussed on this topic, as well as the printing industry just rehashing King releases.
No judging here.....let's open up a conversation for all our members here on this topic:
What's your opinion of King books being recreated over and over by the publishing industry?

Thanks for responding Mulleins. I was reading the comments from this reddit and people were already complaining about their wallet hurting because of all these editions. I don't know a part of me is excited for new releases but the collector part of me questions the real value of all these books coming out. Stephen King himself has said the only thing that makes a book rare is the scarcity of it. Technically all these printings of the same book drives down value? I tend to think so but people may not think so. What are people's thoughts on this?

Re: The Dark Tower and Folio publishing ?
I'll add my two cents here:
1) For newer collectors that don't have access (or can't justify) spending the ever increasing prices for SK limiteds or early Doubleday editions, some of these anniversary/gift type editions represent a way to get a rare edition of a book they could otherwise not get. Like any hobby people grow into collecting books and gift editions are a great way to get started. If these editions help generate more interest in collecting then that's a good thing.
2) For more established collectors, it can be annoying to have to get yet another edition of a title you already have multiples of, and can at worst just seem like a money grab.
3) For me personally, I wish some titles that don't have limited editions would get announced rather than just more editions of the same title. Did we need another limited of Salem's Lot or The Shining? Will we need more in the future? Could that effort not go to a limited edition of Pet Semetary?
Yes SK has come out in the past somewhat against limited editions, but he not only gives the rights to these projects but in most cases even signs the books. Some arguments can (and have been) made that is is more to support the smaller publishing houses or help the genre in general, but Folio Society is not exactly small, or dedicated to the horror genre. To me, by his actions, SK is giving these projects his full support, and it is re-enforced every time a new limited edition is announced - despite one or two comments to the contrary over the years.
Oh to answer the actual question - these editions sell out right away so there is certainly $$ value there to the collecting community. The secondary market sets the price and while these will likely stay at or above issue price, they will be worth less than the original S/L - which is the way it should be.

Re: The Dark Tower and Folio publishing ?
Interesting points made! I of course have only become a serious collector since this year. Which I still kick myself for not purchasing more signed editions in 2010 when I initially bought 3. I kick myself now because the prices have gone up substantially. I appreciate the point you made about collector's purchasing these unsigned limited editions because the original may not be within their price range. I myself bought the ps publishing Cujo one for that reason. The original signed edition will probably never be something I can afford. Heck even a first edition Carrie and Salem's Lot sometimes feels very out of reach for me. I am still a newbie to collecting compared to some on here so it is nice to get insight from other more seasoned collector's

Excellent points....
This is the one I agree with mostly > 3) For me personally, I wish some titles that don't have limited editions would get announced rather than just more editions of the same title. Did we need another limited of Salem's Lot or The Shining? Will we need more in the future? Could that effort not go to a limited edition of Pet Semetary?
Wouldn't it be cool if someone did a "Different Seasons" limited as a four separate book format housed in a slipcase.

That would be awesome! I want a publisher to do one where Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption one has a miniature rock hammer in it! The cover could look like Brooks and Red carved their names in it. Can you tell which of the stories is my all time favorite movie haha!

The rock hammer in a Shawshank book has been done already. I have one.
