Book Club Edition Question
Hi everyone. I started collecting books last year and I had a question about BCE. Is it common for people to put a BCE dust jacket on a regular 1st edition book. A few books I've come across have all the markings of a 1st edition but the dust jacket is from a BCE

Re: Book Club Edition Question
It's not uncommon. Part of the reason that good looking first edition copies go for so much is that the dustjackets are often trashed. People would then take a good looking DJ (off a book club copy) and put it on their trade edition, tanking the value in the process.
I'd like to think it's happening less today with more information being widely available on how NOT to torch the value of your books but I'm sure it still happens.
Also many early BCE editions are hard to distinguish from trade editions by the book block alone.
