Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
they look like pencil drawings to me, but that would mean he did these in 1500 copies I assume.. I was wondering what others' copies looked like to assure me I'm not seeing things.

Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
there's an article about shrinkwrap in the forum somewhere btw
here's the pertinent info from that thread:
I used to leave everything in the shrink-wrap, the thought being to "preserve" its value long term. But it was pointed out to me that shrink wrap isn't acid neutral, and long term can actually damage a book, jacket or slipcase.
I now take everything out the shrink wrap, just to be safe. I recently grabbed a 1st of the Waste Lands, and the shrink wrap was attached to the jacket. I was able to remove it, but it left a slimy film on the jacket, which I was also able to clean up without any damage to the jacket - but still, I think that proves the point.

Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
My guess would be this isn't an actual drawing, just a reprint of what was originally a pencil drawing.
I'm basisng this off the fact that the edition was cheaply done.
- No Slipcase
- No Limitation Page
- $200 total price
Just seems like individually penciled remarques don't fit into the equation.

Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
I plan on taking mine out of the shrinkwrap when I get it. I don't trust that the shrinkwrap is good for the book. I'll be getting one of the Collector's cases when they become available for it (and probably one for my Collector's edition, and maybe one for one of my $9 trade editions--the other $9 trade edition is going to be my reading copy.)

Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
I still have the last 3 DT limiteds in the shrinkwrap and some of the artists editions too. You guys are scaring me more then King does lately. Maybe I SHOULD take the shrinkwrap off. The only one I removed it from was Little Sisters to check for a remarque (there wasn't one).
I still haven't read Just After Sunset or King Goes to the Movies. Maybe when I get to reading Dome I'll take the shrinkwrap off, I don't know.
I'll have to think about getting a slipcase if I can afford it.

Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
I wouldn't get too scared. for the last 3 DT's they came in a cloth slipcase, so the shrinkwrap is covering the case, not the book (aka not the paper dustjacket). And the books haven't been around for 20+ years in the sun for the plastic to degrade...yet!ur2ndbiggestfan wrote:I still have the last 3 DT limiteds in the shrinkwrap and some of the artists editions too. I don't worry about the shrinkwrap that Grant uses. I do worry, though, about what S&S would use.

Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
So here's my question.
My book came yesterday, and has bumped corners (by the spine) and a scratch on the front cover. The scratch is surface - like a 1 inch mark made by a fingernail. It's right in the dome above the "belly band", so it's on the shiny part of the cover, and thus pretty obvious.
Am I wrong in thinking that for $200, straight from the publisher, I should expect better quality than this? I wrote a comment to S&S - we'll see if they get back to me.

Re: UNDER THE DOME S/N SHIPPED
Yes, for $200 you should expect a brand new copy, because that is what you paid for. Mine came in very nice shape, fortunately. That is why I hate buying from Amazon, although I often do because it saves me time, and gas money driving to the bookstores, where they don't handle the books very nicely either sometimes. I have actually sent a copy of a book back to Amazon which had the dustwrapper taped to the inside of the box with the tape holding the box flaps together, and they returned me the SAME book! It was straightened out the next time, but they are obviously in business more to make money then out of consideration for the customer.
