79. That's going back. I know Carrie is the first novel - but is it the "first" proof? Was he published in any anthologies etc before that?

The 1st anthology that King had a story in was, "People, Places & Things – Volume 1", by Steve King and Chris Chesley.

The 1st anthology book was, "Shadows" which contained "Nona. This was published in 1978 and had a proof release beforehand.

This past July I stumbled upon a copy of the Shadows "Review Copy." I didn't quite know what to make of it because I hadn't heard of it, but I bought it anyway. Mr. R. T., is this review copy different from the proof to which you refer?







This copy was signed by Stephen King in 1979.

Your review copy is exactly the same as all the other hardcovers, except that yours has the red Doubleday card included. This card is the only way to tell Doubleday review copies from ordinary copies.

The proof copy is unmistakable. It is much taller. Below is is a picture of the proof belonging to Carlosdwtweiller.

All the internal punctuation is missing in this proof. I know of only a couple other copies.

It's a concordance to the first four volumes of The Dark Tower books. It defines people, places, etc. It even has some neat maps. Volume 2 of the concordance covers the last three books. A complete concordance was eventually issued by Scribner, then a limited was issued by Cemetery Dance.

This proof is not only missing the commas, but the periods also.
