I started reading SK books when I was 14 and love them so much that in the past year decided I'd like to collect the 1st Ed HB.

Obviously there is a lot more to purchasing a used book stated as "1st Edition" than meets the eye so I have some questions.

1. Are the guidelines on 1st Editions on this site 100%?

e.g. Skeleton Crew - "First edition copies will have the line 12345678910 on the copyright page."
I have a "1st Edition" of this book according to the ISBN referenced on the website below but it has no number line?
http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/sho ... t+Editions

2. Where there is reference to "Issued with a dustjacket and price of..." does this mean as true first edition has a dust jacket price, or is this merely information so we know the price when it first came out?

e.g. I have Misery and Dolores Claiborne and both conform to the guidelines on this site except there is no dust jacket price on either.

I'm also referencing the PDF on SK's website which I think is about the same as on this website.

Thanks

Just to follow up on the dust jacket price question, here is a list of what I have which all conform to the 1st Edition as described on this website EXCEPT they have no dust jacket price.

The Eyes Of The Dragon
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
Dolores Claiborne
The Dark Half
Skeleton Crew

Thanks

I would say that everything listed on the site is completely reliable. Tomas has put a lot of work into his descriptions, etc. As a collector for only a few years, I have used this site to make sure I am buying true first editions.

As to the books you list above with no price on the DJ - without a price, they are most likely Book Club Editions. These edition can look exactly like regular bookstore versions. The missing price on the DJ gives them away. They hold little to no value, except for the books that were ONLY issued by books, like Secret Windows.

For info. Thomas had nothing to do with making up the 1st Editions list.

What? I hope that's a joke.

I will however, give another awesome shout out to you, Mr Rabbit for providing all the info on the UK 1st editions!

In regards to the skeleton crew, if you go back to the info page and click on the picture of the DJ, you'll see an actual 1st edition copyright page, showing the 12345678910.

All the info is accurate to the best of my ability. The viewers here are great at pointing out any mistakes I've made; after a decade or so of pointing them out I think what you're left with is a pretty solid set of facts :D

What I meant was that the list, "How to identify 1st Editions", was first made up by Bev Vincent. (I think). He should get the credit.

Ah gotcha! Yep that list is courtesy of Bev and anyone else that helped to get it up on the official SK website.
