AS WE KNOW THE FIRST PRINTING OF IT WAS ES SOLD IN MAY 1986 BY EDITION PHANTASIA AS A LIMITED EDITION (250) .THE U.S. TRADE EDITION WAS RELEASED HERE IN SEPT 1986. IN JULY OF THAT YEAR THE WIFE & I WERE TRAVELING THRU EUROPE NEAR THE END OF THE MONTH WE WERE IN GERMANY AND I PICKED UP THIS OVERSIZED PAPERBACK AT A PUBLIC BOOKSTORE. IT DOES HAVE A DIFFERENT ISBN #3-453-02253X THEN THE LIMITED ISBN #3-924959-06-4 BUT THE PAGE NUMBERS AND TEXT ARE THE SAME EXCEPT FOR THE TITLE PAGE BOTH ARE TRANLATED BY ALEXANDRA VON REINHARDT. THIS BOOK WAS PUBLISHED BY WILHELM HEYNE VERLAG, MUNEHEN. (WHO WAS MR KINGS AUTHORIZED GERMAN PUBLISHER) AND IS ALSO CREDITED IN THE LIMITED. THE ONLY OTHER DIFFERANCE IS AT THE BACK OF THE BOOK 4 PAGES OF ADS FOR THE OTHER BOOKS HEYNE WAS SELLING WITH ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE COVERS FOR RICHARD BACHMAN, STEPHEN & TABATHA KING, PETER STRUB, ECT. THE PRICE OF THESE AVERAGE SIZED PAPERBACKS RANGED FROM DM 6.80 TO DM 9.80 THE PRICE OF THIS BOOK WAS DM 24.50 (AROUND $15). I GOOGLED HEYNE AND DISCOVERED THEY WERE STRICLEY PAPERBACK PUBLISHERS IN 1986.

Hey, I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing!

Off-topic: why do you write everything in capitals? It makes things harder to read... :)

I'm sure nobody else knew this eather it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Before leaving on our backpacking trip thru Europe I had recived a notification from a U.S. dealer that a Germam limitied edition of IT was coming out. At the time I was also collecting SciFI (NOT SYFY)Horror & Fantasy Movie tie-ins so I hit 100's of new and used bookstores thrughout Europe. So when I saw this book on the sales counter I ask the clerk what is this? (In english I don't speak or read any foreign languages)The clerk replyed IT and I replyed this book isn't even out in the states . I assume Heyne jumped the gun on the release. I'm not sure how it works. Each country must be given a strict release date for it's printing. Another interesting fact The Dark Half was released in Oct 1989 U.K. on the 2nd and here in the U.S.A. on the 20th. Some time before the 20th a co-worker imformed me that his wife was reading The Dark Half and again I replyed How? it's not out yet. He answered Book Club! Was this before Oct 2nd? I don't remember. But it was before the 20th So does this make the Book Club the 1st or 2nd edition? Isn't COLLECTING FUN?

It's a LOT of fun! Too bad I was a tad too young at the time, otherwise I might have had the opportunity to get one of the German IT books myself. I lie in The Netherlands and have often been to Germany, but in 1986 I was twelve years old and I hadn't yet discovered King (that would happen about 1 or 2 years later). But if I'd been, say, 17 or 18... who knows?
