Hi,
There is a New English Library first edition of The Stand for sale on ebay.
On the title page inside the book is what appears to be a stamp, showing a black capital "R" in a circle.
Any idea what this could be?
Thanks in advance
Gordon

That is a Remainder mark. The book originally did not sell, so the bookstore sent it back to the publisher to get a refund. The publisher stamps the book and sends it to a discount store.GordonH wrote:Hi,

Other remainder marks are sprayed speckled paint and a simple black sharpie mark.

Hi,
I've never seen one of those - I'm surprised that the bookshop had difficulty in selling it!
Would the stamp reduce the value of the book?

Yes. Collectors do not want things like that. Bookplates and other peoples name are also frowned upon.GordonH wrote:Hi,
