Hello folks,
Well the forum is up and running! I'll be honest and say that while everything seems to be working fine, I've never setup anything like this before, so techincal issues may very well arise... and I only hope I can muddle thru enough to fix anything that crops up.
Post your technical issues/questions here and I'll address them. If there is anyone out there familiar with phpBB and MySQL 5.0 databases that would be willing to help with any issues that crop up please PM me
Everyone else, enjoy the boards!

Re: The forums are up!
Congratulations on the new forums! And, Holy crap, the theme you've chosen looks great. I hope these new forums thrive and grow.
By the way, when I registered, my language selection was limited to British English, which is odd since we're both North Americans.

Re: The forums are up!
Hi Tomas. Nice looking boards!
I do have one slight problem, though. Whenever I exit, then go back in, I still have to login, even though I've checked the box for an automatic login. What am I doing wrong?
John

Re: The forums are up!
Thanks for the kind words John,
I have a similar problem, and I haven't figured out what's going on yet. I usualy use firefox and I wonder if it's handling the cookies in a different way. (although my settings seem fine).
I'll look at the phpBB boards and if I find anything useful I'll post it here.

Re: The forums are up!
Well, I have a slight update on this. The forums are imbedded within my site via iframes, it seems that the tracking cookie will not pass itself when the referring page is imbedded into an iframe.
As far as a fix goes.... at this time I don't have one, but I'm looking into it. I suppose understanding the problem is half the battle.

Re: The forums are up!
Hey guys, for those that care, the forum has been updated from 3.0.0 to 3.0.4
Note to anyone doing this, DO NOT overwrite your config.php file or your 10 minute upgrade will turn into a few hours over at the support forums !
Also, I found out that the spammers have cracked the CAPTCHA visual confirmation that phpBB uses as part of the registration (that's the box with random letters you need to type in when you register the account for the first time) This is why the boards have suddenly been getting tons of spam accounts.
I made two seperate modifcations, one that updates to a different CAPTCHA that hasn't been cracked another that stops the majority of BOTs from accessing the registration page in the first place.
I'm going to keep new registrations as needing "admin" aproval thru the end of the week. if I notice the spam accounts have gone I'll turn new account activation back to "user" approval just like it was before.

Sounds good to me, Tomas. I don't pretend to understand the technicalities, but luckily you do!

Just Barely lol....on a relativly positive note, my inbox this morning had only 1 forum activiation pending (clearly a spam). That's down from 5-10 on a given morning.jhanic wrote:Sounds good to me, Tomas. I don't pretend to understand the technicalities, but luckily you do!
