Ah I see
https://www.cemeterydance.com/forum-end-of-life.html

Well on one hand I can understand it a bit. Many folks have moved off forums and onto Facebook community pages. I can't say I love it personally but it is where folks seems to congregate these days.

Forums are also expensive to keep up, especially if you don't have the technical skills to keep the code up-to-date....Forums are one of the few sections I have to outsource myself and I've felt pretty lucky that PHPbb has been on a stable long term release build for a while now. But it's like going to a car mechanic, each time a tweak is needed you're just hoping you get out of there at under $500.

That being said, I'm here for you guys! Any CD forum folks are welcome here as long as we keep it SK related or off on the misc section.

I saw that as well. Kind of a bummer.

We had a little dedicated group of posters over there. Some collecting discussions and probably more talk on off-topic things.

The best thing was every interaction, post, and topic was essentially pleasant.

Didn't someone over there talk about setting up something similar for those who might be interested?

I know they had an email list going, too.

Pretty abrupt and bad business sense (IMHO) to just shut it down with no warning other than rumors.

Yep. There is another forum being cobbled together and there is an email group as well.

Looks like the new forum is experiencing some technical issues currently and someone will need to drop $500.00. :P

Whelp if it doesn't work out, feel free to send folks over here. I'm willing to spin up a main Cemetery Dance CD section if at least a few active people are willing to move over as regulars.

I'll pass this along and remind the group about your site. Thanks, Mr. Collector.

First time, not a long time.

I just wanted to hop on here and provide an update to the other forum that was being cobbled together.

Hi, it's me, the one doing the cobbling. I wanted to see if I was able to spin up a new forum and I was able to quickly put something together and so far so good, it's working out.

You can find us at https://www.bookhavenforum.com/

For having no official notice that CD was going to shut their forum down, I was able to get this news out to most of the active users before the forum disappeared. We currently have 12 active (registered and logged in) users, and 5 inactive (registered; never signed in) users which I think is pretty good.

Currently the new forum is missing certain features most of us have come to use - private messaging and in-line photos. Those are upgrades to the software I'm using and those upgrades cost money and right now this is a very lean operation.

Anyways, I just wanted to chime in over here and invite everyone to our new little corner of the internet. I'm not a facebook guy and I've used forums for years/decades now. Facebook groups just aren't the same for me - I like the organized chaos of a web forum.

Thanks for the update TacomaDriver, I'll put a note in the monthly newsletter about the forum change. I'm with you, while I can grudgingly give props to facebook for their realtime/robust groups I don't love social media in general and in almost every other way I prefer a robust web forum. (Maybe I'm showing my age) Based on engagment I know I'm in the minority, and that's fine.

I appreciate you getting the word out - that's awesome of you!

Showing my age here - but my first exposure to the internet (excluding email) was spending HOURS of my time on USENET. I loved the forums there. Met quite a few people there that I'm still in contact with to this day. Logging in and using TIN to read USENET. Definitely another time.
