The details around the publication of this edition gets really weird, please see the notes below:
* Due to high binding costs, the press did not bind the entire first printing in hardback. instead, they bound what they felt they could sell at the time (125 copies). Later on the publisher sold the remaining inventory to Betts Bookstore, which used the inventory to produce a limited edition in trade paperback which Betts offered for sale in 1995.
The limitation pages across all editions are the same (Lettered, hardback numbered, paperback numbered)
I checked out three different sources of information for this page, there seems to be some inconsistencies on whether there were 450 TOTAL copies, or 476 (450 limited + 26 lettered). With the limitation sheets of all three editions being the same and stating 450 copies - that number could be the total. Or it could be that the publisher just didn't want the cost of a unique lettered limitation page but made enough for both the limited and lettered editions. The Key to this seems to be whether copies of the S/L hardback with a limitation number between #100-#125 actually exist. Also mixed-in somewhere in all of this are 12 presentation copies of the Betts Books edition.
Sources used for this information include "Stephen King: A Primary Bibliography of the World's Most Popular Author" ; "Stephen King Collectibles: An Illustrated Price Guide" ; and tdt.org - If anyone has some additional verifiable information on this topic or a photo of a limitation page with numbers 100-125 please drop me an email.
In "Stephen King Collectibles: An Illustrated Price Guide" There is a note that Anne River Siddons is quite the King fan and wrote at length about King in the Collector's Edition of the Dead Zone... I thought this was referring to the Easton Press edition of The Dead Zone, but the introduction there is by James Gunn, so I do not know which edition George Beahm is referring to in his book. If anyone does please drop me an email and I'll update the page.
King's contribution to this book is a short introduction.
