Puzzled about my copy of Pet Sematary

Post by OutdoorCat78 »

Hello.

I have this hardcover version of Pet Sematary. I always assumed it was a BCE because it has no price on the dust jacket. The thing is that ALL other indicators of a 1st ed. 1st pr. are present.

I looked up the indicators to identifying a 1st ed. and it has them all. The CP says 1st edition, It has the Y38 on pg. 374, The back flap of the DJ has the cover artist's name and the 1183 code, and the back cover has the 1982 date for Caretakers. The book itself is fully bound in black cloth with the text in shiny gold. Just no price on the front flap.

I attached links to the pictures below, if you'd like to see. If anyone has an idea what to make of this, please let me know.

Thanks!

I've seen where someone has a true first edition part of the book but the dustjacket is a facsimile. They look exactly like a first edition dustjacket but has no price in the inside flap. Also some book club edition dustjackets look exactly like a first edition dustjacket. Which could be the case here.

Yeah. I guess it’s probably something like that. It’s a shame because the book itself is in great condition (by my standards anyway). Solid with no markings or other damage besides a little shelf wear. But I didn’t pay the 1st edition price for it so, as a BCE, I guess it’s a bit of a bonus.

Thanks for the info.
