We just listed a signed first edition of “Salem’s Lot” for a client. It's an original true First Edition (”First Edition” as noted on copyright page),
Signed and Inscribed by Stephen King in 1975, publication date.
The book has been signed directly into the book, not on some bookplate that was affixed. The book was originally auctioned off at the Windham Public Library in Maine and has had the same owner for 18 years.

The book is offered with NO RESERVE on ebay . Click below to see the listing.

‘Salem’s Lot is a 1975 horror novel written by Stephen King, and was the author’s second published novel. The title King originally chose for his book was Second Coming, but he later decided on Jerusalem’s Lot. The publishers, Doubleday, shortened it to the current title, thinking the author’s choice sounded too religious.

Too bad this volume has so many of the library wear indications! If it were in fine condition, it would bring in A LOT more!

Right. Condition is very important with collectors and unfortunately this one has seen better days. However, it's still a collectible book.... We are offering it with no reserve. Let market will decide on the final price.

I'm watching this auction. Because of the signature and more importantly, the date, it would be more valuable than a similar unsigned book. What I kind of feel is hard to believe that no-one walked off with this when it was in circulation!

I don't think it was signed when it was in circulation. More likely it was in circulation originally, then signed, and auctioned off.

But in 1975 or 76...was anyone really that concerned about obtaining King's signature? Especially up in SK's neck of the woods at a time when he likely would have signed a book for anyone who stopped by his place?

Heck - back in the early 80's, when the first DT book was only available as the Grant limited edition, the public library in Erie, PA had one on the shelves you could check out.
