A recent find got me thinking and I'm curious what y'all think ...

Would you prefer a first edition/first printing of an early SK book or a later printing that is in almost perfect condition?

Given that first printings of his older books like 'Salem's Lot, Firestarter, and The Shining were printed with such poor materials, I know it's almost impossible to find a 1/1 in excellent shape nowadays.

I'm also not talking about the Book Club printings that you can find today in excellent shape; I'm talking about finding a true later printing of those older books that has been well cared for and still looks bright and vibrant

I think around here just about everyone is going to prefer the 1st/1st regardless of condition. That is after all what collecting RARE Stephen King is all about. The secondary market bears that out as well with later copies in mint condition selling for a fraction of the value of a 1st/1st in fair condition.
