LATER Slipcase Thread

Hey folks,

Despite a couple newsletter announcements I've been fielding a regular stream of emails on whether or not I'll be making a slipcase for this book. Short answer YES.
I'm going to be using this thread for any/all production updates and questions so I can direct people here instead of answering the same question multiple times per week.

As of 4/30 here's where things stand:
  • I received my hardcover copies in the mail a couple of days ago
  • Copies are being mailed out to the design house and bindery this weekend
  • The design house will start working on mockups once they receive the book, and I'll look to pick a couple finalists before a design is finalized. This process will take a few weeks
  • Then the bindery takes over, orders materials, and sends a prototype over to be signed off on. This process also takes a few weeks
  • If everything looks good a production run is scheduled - timing on this depends on how many other projects the bindery has ahead of mine....it's around this time that I would start taking pre-orders
At this point, I'm estimating completion late summer-ish.

Any questions, thoughts, or ideas please post them here.

To answer the first question I saw online just now:

The case will be sized so that those that add a brodart/mylar cover over both DJ's (always recommended for any book) will have a good fit.
If you're choosing to leave the book in shrinkwrap or not wrap it it'll just be a smidge looser but will still fit fine.

If possible it would be nice if a version was also made using the name and author shown on the alternate dust jacket. Thanks.

An interesting thought - while it's not going to be feasible to do an alternate version there are two sides to the case, we could add the alternate title to the opposite side. I'll mention it to the design house.

Yeah I was thinking in terms of the alternate jacket too. Since I see now that Lividian is doing a case as well... It would be really cool to have one case that is dedicated to the Roanoke alternate cover, then we could have a case to display each of them.
If it is already been designed however, that's probably not going to be in the cards.

So i wasn't thinking about doing this originally, but the design house came up with a pretty fantastic design that I feel would be amazing for the paperback version of the book. I have had a few people reach out asking about a slipcase for a paperback copy. Kind of surprising to me, but it seems like there's some interest anyway and I hate to throw away a good design.

I'm thinking perhaps just a one time run for the paperback version. There needs to be enough interest to justify the production run. I have to work thru the costs but probably 100 slipcases would need to be made in order for it to work out.

Thoughts?

And for the record, I am pretty sure there are a lot of people who would buy a copy of the stand traycase that is on the home page if you ever brought it back. (myself included of course)
