Contraband

Post by Fitzy93 »

Hi all. I came across Contraband second and third issue today and was hoping someone could give me more info on these. The seller said that these are very rare and that Mr King bought up a bunch of them because he was so annoyed that his name was misspelled. The date on the second issue was Dec 1st 1971. Any info would be awesome and a value? I tried uploading a photo but couldn’t from my phone. Thanks

The 1st and 2nd are the ones with Steve King contributions. Tabitha also has some input.

The 1st (Oct 1971) is the rarest and most valuable at $750. The 2nd (Dec 1971) is worth around $375.

Below are pictures of my copies for those who have never seen them.

Thank you. That’s what the second issue looked like but the seller was asking much more than 375. Are these rare enough that the value will increase in the future? Thanks for the quick response as always!

Sellers of King items tend to overprice them. Not many sell for the prices they want. Just look at the actual items that sell on ebay. Probably only about 10% of what's for sale, actually sell. The books on Abebooks are usually there for may years without selling.

As far as the prices for the 2nd issue of Contraband goes. It has not increased in value since I bought mine in 2007. Supply and demand dictates the price.

I paid $300 for #1 in 2011 and $400 for #2 in 2010.
