Dust jacket protector

Post by Abby »

I have a few older first editions that I want to keep in great shape. Does anyone put a dust protector (that clear layer) on their books? I see some that use tape some that don’t use tape... wondering if this is good or bad for collectible books.

I put a Brodart archive cover on all my collectable books. A must for any serious collector or rare book.

Here is a link to what I use:

I also use Brodart archival series.

To answer your question about tape, none of those include tape but I do use tape to keep the Brodart covers tight around the dustjacket.

HOWEVER, the tape is never touching the DJ, as you're folding over the Brodart cover you're taping one end of the Brodart to the other end. I can't think of a great way to explain it but it should be pretty self evident once you actually try. There's probably a youtube video around somewhere.
