Gunslinger 2nd edition

Post by Stevenemo86 »

Hello,

I just started collecting and am new to all of this. Luckily for me my collection started off with a gift given to me by my mom. It is a 2nd edition copy of the gunslinger. Because of the circumstances of how she got it I will never sell it. I know obviously that the first edition is what everyone wants but is there any demand or interest in the 2nd edition. I guess I'm just trying to gauge if what I have is a cool piece or just something the collecting community isnt interested in.

Hello and welcome! Oh yeah the 2nd edition is certainly in demand. It's worth between $250-$350 depending on the condition. You can find more details on it at the Gunslinger page

Thanks for the reply.

So just to clarify, there is a first edition, a second edition then there is a 3rd edition printed in 1998? Then was there another printed in 2003?

The Gunslinger was not printed after 2003 because the revised edition replaced it then.

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger
Classification: Novel; Collection of short fiction
Notes: This novel is composed of five sequential short stories. All five stories had been previously published and were revised for their appearance here.
In 2003, King published a revised edition of this book. The changes were meant to make the novel tie-in better with the final three Dark Tower installments.
This version of the book went out of print in 2003 due to the publication of the revised edition.

Thanks for that comprehensive list. Was #3 really first printed in 1988? That was the first version of the gunslinger I owned before I was a collector, and could have sworn I read it before I graduated HS in '87. But I guess I could be wrong.

Is there any collectible interest in #3 (the Plume paperback). I still have mine out of nostalgia.

There are two states of the PLUME 1st Edition THE GUNSLINGER. It was also issued in the form of a PERMA-BOUND BOOK. That would make it the rarer of the two.

The GUNSLINGER was also issued as a AUDIOCASSETTE read by King himself in 1988 along with a 800 S/L Edition.
