Ideas for the site

Post by TheCollector »

Hey guys, for the last week of the contest I'd like you to post one way the site could be improved for you. Could be something small like broken link you noticed, or something big like a whole new section idea! I can't promise all ideas will be implemented, in fact I can probably promise NOT all ideas will be implemented :) But I'm hoping enough people chime in that I'll get a sense of what the community is looking for here, or at worst I'll get reminded there's a bad URL linked in some random info page!

Post 'em here and get your shot at that last copy of The Institute before it drops on September 10th!

What do you think of a " what book or item did you last buy / receive?" topic ?

Maybe also implement a "Europe limiteds" section on the site. 😉

A popular part of the TDT site is the "Pride and Joy" thread where posters can brag about their latest buy and post pictures.

I don't visit it much myself as I don't like people who brag about what they are able to buy. The rich people make the poor people sad.

Great ideas Mr. Rabbit and Noxus, sounds like you both have a similar idea - the great thing is that these are forum ideas and everyone had rights to make new topics in the forum, start it up and people will post!
If either of you don't start a "what item did you recently buy" type thread in the next few days I'll get it going, but that may re-enforce the idea that I'm the one that needs to start topics, which certainly isn't true!

May not be super easy to implement, but maybe on each page for the books (i.e. NOT the forum), people can post a comment of what they paid since book values do fluctuate over time, and where - i.e. ebay, used book store, facebook, and any comments).. essentially a database which might help others gage fair prices for buy/sell

So if I go to the shining maybe I'd see something like:
8/29/19 - $175 - ebay- previous owner's name written in
9/15/19 - $250 - facebook marketplace- mint
10/1/19- $30 - ebay - very poor condition but not marketed as first edition

Then over time it may become quite helpful

Not keen on anyone being able to post in the books section. That would be open to abuse by professional booksellers trying to bump up prices by stating unrealistic sales.

The current links to sales is okay.

Sometimes it hard to gauge how accurate a value estimate is on the pages since we don't know when they were last updated. Perhaps, if you could just put a note on each page when you update a value stating what date the estimate was made on. (like "as of 8/20/2019 the going rate is ....)

Interesting ideas. Perhaps some way to integrate stm08007's idea and amd013's idea together I'll have to give it some thought.

I agree with above. I like how you list the current prices for US and UK Limited, but how about mentioning the last date you checked? Shouldn't be too hard to throw in (XX/XX/XXXX) when you update the current prices at the end of the listing. I realize that some of these are not as common and are therefore estimates, but for the ones that aren't, it would let us know if you just researched this in July or in January. I assume when I read them they are fairly up to date, but we all now what happens when you assume... :D

And one more thing - your slipcases are so nice and well made. Any chance at getting more options on those?
