Books about Stephen King

Post by allasorte »

I have 3 bookcases and they are almost completely full. Finding solid good ones I can refinish is really hard to do and they just don't pop up all the time. Since publishers are making 50 different versions of all of King's books, I have been trying to collect what I can lol. So I am torn if I should stop collecting books about Stephen King and just stick with books he has written. I know some books about him are collectible, but harder to sell. The signed numbered ones of "A Stephen King's Story" "Bare Bones" "Stephen King the Man the Artist" and the list goes on and on. They have value but many collectors are not after these types of King Collectibles. I have thought about collecting limited edition books only, but then there are many of his titles not printed this way, so books would be limited for collecting.

So my question to you guys (I know it's preference) is this: Do I sell my books about Stephen King?

This is to make room for other King books. I know I have a lot of his newer books that are worth 10 bucks in as new condition, but they are still written by him. I would simply start selling off books by other authors writing about him. I would like people's input to help me decide what to do. I do have one shelf of Harry Potter, Exorcist, and non-King, but these I will not sell. Thanks everyone!

There can't be many King books that do not have a special limited edition.

Most collectors get rid of the "books about King" first. They are not well liked, and are always on sale for low prices.

You make too much sense, as that is what I was thinking. As my collection has grown, the thought of what to get rid off always creeps in my mind. I know I should think for myself, I'm just looking for a push to start selling "books about King." I've been thinking about exactly what you said for almost a year now.....thanks!

Personally I don't plan on collecting any books about SK. At least not until after he is dead anyway. (assuming I out live him) I'll wait for a book that is written a few years after he has passed, and is approved by his family. Otherwise the book soon becomes outdated, since he is still active.

I have one book called the Art of Darkness by Douglas winters, that I think was written in 1984. I probably bought it a few years after it was published, as a paperback, simply for reading purposes (was loooong time before I officially became a collector). Now it just sits in a corner with other tangentially related King books. (Rose Red, Ellen Rimbaur?, Dark Tower concordance's).

I do also have a comic book about Stephen King given as a gift by another member of this site.

I have to agree, I'm running out of shelf space myself and those are the ones I stopped collecting early on.
