The Gunslinger

Post by tlc656 »

I have a copy of The Gunslinger I purchased in 1982. It was and still is entirely encased in plastic. I've never opened it and am hesitant to alter the pristine condition. Of course, I've read the entire Dark Tower series. But my question is; can I determine whether it is a 1st or 2d edition without removing the plastic casing?

You should be able to see the color of the boards and as stated under the 1st editions section

"Trade hardcover edition of 10,000 copies with dustjacket, of which approximately 1,500 copies were misbound. The cover boards are maroon in color, and the book has colored endpapers; the dustjacket has two prices printed.

The second printing of 10,000 copies, with dustjacket. This edition has black cover boards, the endpapers are NOT printed in color and only one price is printed on the dustjacket

Then it appears to be a second edition. However, there is no price on the dust jacket.

The price would be on the inside of the front flap. Since you haven't opened the shrink wrap, you won't see the price.

I thought I read somewhere that the 2nd printing did not come out tilter 1984? Don't know for sure I bought mine in 1984 in Portland, me bookstore as new for $20. Also as jhanic stated the price of $20 trade and $60 limited will be INSIDE the front flap of dust jacket.
