The Stand later printing

Post by AlexxKing69 »

I just got a copy of The Stand (The Doubleday version) but its a later printing, the string starts with 14 does that mean its a 14th printing? If so, was that still made in 1978? For its age I think its in really good condition and it was pretty cheap.

I seriously doubt that it was printed in 1978 with a print line that starts 14. That version of The Stand was not printed after 1990 (when the Revised edition came out) so your book falls somewhere in the 80s, I'm sure. There's a way to tell the year and week it was printed with the code in the gutter of page 823, but I can't remember how to decipher it.

I know its not the 1990 edition or the uncut version.
I honestly haven't checked the last page of it, I could show pictures of it.

Okay heres the details: The dustjacket has a price of US: $21.95 Canada $28.95
The printing line is 14 16 18 20 21 19 17 15
Its full black bookcloth, and its a very small book, it doesn't say book club anywhere on it but under the printing line it does say BG and I'm not sure what that means.
I'll post a picture of the dust jacket.

One thing I found strange is that it appears the first printing had tan boards, this one doesn't have boards at all, its black book cloth all the way around, much like Pet Sematary.

Another reason I asked about the year is because I have a 4th printing of "It" and that says "Fourth printing September 1986" so I was thinking the stand might have not been much different.

It was published by Viking. The Stand was published by Doubleday. Different publishers often use different verbiage.
