PC vs. Lettered/Numbered Copies

Post by needful_things4me »

I would appreciate the opinion of the community on this question, as an investment do you feel that signed Publisher Copies are of equal, greater or lesser value than the signed Lettered or signed Numbered editions? Or, does the value depend on the individual story. For example, I've seen quite a few PC copies of the Colorado Kid available for purchase on eBay recently, priced higher than the limited numbered edition? Thanks for your advice.

Hi Andrea,

It all depends on how many PC copies were issued. With some editions, there seem to be a lot of PCs out there while, with others, they are few and far between. With The Colorado Kid, there were only a total of 450 s/n copies (150 per artist) and a total of 1000 Artist editions (333 per artist), so a PC edition may be the way to go with those if you weren't lucky enough to get one of the numbered ones. I do not value the PC editions higher than the equivalent numbered edition.

I personally try to stay away from the PC copies because one is just about like another, while the numbered and lettered are unique in that there is no other copy with that number or letter. Just my opinion, of course.

If I'm putting all SK books into one lump statment I say that PC editions are worth plus or minus 10% of a regular limited edition. Like John says it depends on the book, how many PC editions were made vs regular and if you find a buyer that prefers PC editions or not.

For example, I know a few people that have tried to make PC sets of the Dark Tower sereis, knowing they couldn't put together a matching numbered set. In this case they'd actively seek out PC editions over regular S/L's

What so you think of the PC Copy of "The Regulators"? The check is dated 5/11/82 and is made out to Roland LeBay in the amount of $75.00, which makes it unique. If I am correct there were only 30 PC copies out there, which would make it more rare than the S/L edition.

There were 51 "PC" copies of this S/L (see Phantasmagoria #4) so the numbers are almost the same as the lettered.

There is less demand for "PC" copies of ANY S/L, so they are not worth as much. They usually fetch less money than the signed/numbered and MUCH less than the Lettered versions.

Based on the last three offered for sale, its worth no more than $600. Two have sold on eBay for about $560, and one has been relisted over and over for the list six months as it is offered at an unrealistic $2500.
