Hi guys.
I have a seller with a 1st Gunslinger that has has the title page/copyright page cut out (maybe cos a previous owner had a name on it).
The boards are maroon indicating it is a true first (since no copyright page to confirm I'm guessing this is the only way to tell?).
The dust jacket has both prices on it, and only has the below damage on the spine:
Any idea on what this may be worth? Does the book hold any value at all without the copyright page? or is all value (if any) in the dust jacket?
Appreciate your thoughts.
Cheers
Damaged Gunslinger value?

The spine is sunfaded. The title should be yellow.
I don't think it is worth buying.

I agree. If you really want it, I'd pay no more than $5.

I also agree if you can get it for $5.oo fine but you may want to go a little higher just to have it in your collection. What does a new paperback cost these days? If you think down the road you will be willing & able to pay $ 500.00 - $1,000.00 for a decent copy then pass. But remember a bird in the hand & there will always be that GAPING HOLE in your collection & only 10,000 printed. How many great copies are out there

Re: Damaged Gunslinger value?
Unless I'm missing something here I see a 1st edition gunslinger with a faded spine & cut out copyright page.
I don't think that turns a $700 book into a $5 book. It's easy enough to tell this is a 1st edition by the boards and aside from the sun fading the DJ seems pretty clean. The mising CR page bothers me more then a faded spine DJ....Check out how many faded spines you see on COTW and no one's letting those go for 99% off the usual price. (which would work out to $1.20 or so at the discount suggested)
No seller is going to let it go at $5 either in fact they'll probably be so offended they'll just stop the discussion right there. I think REALISTICALLY you could expect to pay $50-$100 but I would push to get as low as I could without insulting the seller.

Re: Damaged Gunslinger value?
Thanks Tomas
I kinda agree, I don't think it is a straight "don't buy - it's not worth anything". I was looking to get an idea of what the dustjacket may make it worth, and so good to get an idea thanks.
I hadn't noticed the sun fading until it was pointed out (not sure how I overlooked that - duh), and so am in two minds about do I want it or not.
Like it was mentioned above - it is a 1st/1st Gunslinger, and I certainly don't have $900 to pick up a fine copy...

Re: Damaged Gunslinger value?
Tell the guy he should have picked up a $30 slipcase which would have stopped that fading of the spine
Seriously though, your options would be to wait for a good deal on a better condition first. A good deal would be a 1st in decent shape for between $400 - $500 OR look for a 2nd edition which you could probably pick up in the $150 range with a little patience.

Re: Damaged Gunslinger value?
I've actually already got a fine/fine 2nd edition, and picked up your fine/fine third edition, so I guess the hole on the bookcase isn't as big as it could be lol
