Wastelands

Post by brownt2707 »

I have the softcover, plume edition, two copies. Trying to figure out which one is the first edition. Can anyone help me with this? One has a numberline with a 1 and says first printing on copyright page, the other just has a copyright date of 91 but nothing else.

I would say the one with the number line is the true first printing. I've never researched the Plume editions, however, so I don't know just what the other is.

I'd also say the one with the number line is the 1st edition. Unfortunatly not much research is available on the Plume editions, since they're not very valuable from a collectibles standpoint. They do may excellent reading copies however.

Of course, I wasn't trying to knock the plume editions, I have them myself and they're great. I just meant that, in general, it's harder to find info on books that aren't as valuable.

For example, if someone e-mails me with a early doubleday copy of the stand with code S49 in the gutter all I can say for sure is that it isn't a 1st edition but I can't track down exactly which printing it would be.... not because i don't want to.. but because no one preserved that info since the edition was not collectible.

THE WASTELANDS with the number line is the first Plume edition. They did two states, one has the nebula on the cover and the other has the train on the cover. They are alternate covers of the first Plume edition. The title and author's name are also raised.
The books with only the copyright date are the Quality Paperback Book Club editions, which I believe were released in May 1992. I think they only did the nebula cover, but can't be sure about this. The title and author's name are flat.
Plume also released a cardboard holder for their edition which states "Your Choice of Covers!" and held about ten books, five per side. I know because my Plume Wastelands are still in the holder!
