Looking for one of those recent DT2s that Grant sold, signed by Phil Hale. If you have one you're willing to part with, shoot me an email at batsker@yahoo.com . Thanks a bunch.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and SK collecting. I purchased one of the two DTII editions, mentioned here in the previous post, signed by Phil Hale that was recently up for acution on eBay. The seller has over 500 feedbacks and a rating of 100% and listed the item as being purchased directly from Grant Publishing. The book was received in perfect condition, I was happy and left positive feedback. However, when I showed the book to a friend, I was told that Phil Hale's signature should have been written out, full first name and last name. That my copy was probably a fake. Here is the link to the book images: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0240493519

I've tried to research other Phil Hale signatures online, finding only images of the S/L written out DTII, and a single blog entry where a copy of a sketch exists that Phil Hale did for the blogger at a Scifi/Fantasy conference. The sketch signatre appears as initials, the same as my copy. http://gelatometti2.blogspot.com/2006/0 ... -2006.html

So, here is the question, can anyone else verify that Phil Hale also signs items in this way, with a signature of what looks like initials? Or, have I made a classic rookie mistake. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Andrea

His signature has changed over the years. If I remember correctly those Grant trade editions were signed no more than a year ago, which would make the initialed signature appropriate.

Compared http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDet ... D0%26y%3D0 a signature from 1998 in "The Crow Shattered Lives and Broeken Dreams" to http://cgi.ebay.ca/Stephen-King-SIGNED- ... dZViewItem the 1987 Grant sgn/ltd.

I'm far from an expert (although there are a few on this board), but I'd say its NOT fake.

Hello Andrea,

e_taylor is correct. In the S/L edition from 1987 you'll see a fully written out signature. However with the recent 1st edition Drawing of the Three w/ Hale's signature you see a very sloppy signature.

More then one person has asked if they realy have a Hale signature or not. It's there you just can't make it out very well. If I remember I'll take a pic of the signature page from my 1st edition copy; but it's pretty much the same as the examples already listed.

Based on the info provided I'd say your copy is genuine.

I got my signed DTII direct from Grant and it sounds exactly like the one you got on e-bay- i.e. a squiggle. I agree that yours is most probably real.

I agree. It's legitimate.

Just to join the crowd: Mine looks like that too.

By the way, I was under the impression that Grant still has some of the DTII 1sts available with Hale's signature, but perhaps I'm not current.
