I did not see a page here for Justin Cronin's 'The Passage', I have probably just missed the entry but can heartily recommend it to everyone, reminds me a lot of The Stand, as its similarly clever and got some real heart to it.

My only real problem with Cronin's Passage is that it's the first book of a trilogy, in which each book is supposed to be published two years apart .

I did enjoy the first one though, and, if I'm still around, I plan on finishing the series. (I'm not getting any younger, here!)

I thought it was excellent, and having read it before I found out about the planned trilogy, am very happy to hear the story will continue.

I can see why King has endorsed it too, as its nice to have a story about vampires that doesn't involve teen romance

I ordered one of the lettered copies from CD (figure if the movie is a hit that it should increase in value), and in the meantime (which of course could be many many months) bought a copy at the local bookstore to read. It was okay, but ... I don't know, too gimmiky? Predictable? Far-fetched? Where with the The Stand you were immediately drawn in by the characters and situations, I just didn't get that from The Passage. Plus, as I read somewhere else, it seemed like he used every cliche available. My opinion, it's no The Stand ... it's an okay book ... don't know how it'll hold up as a trilogy ... maybe the movie will just be phenomenal ... but I somehow kind of doubt it. I hope I'm wrong!

I was looking for some opinions from anyone who may have purchased or has actually seen a copy of the limited numbered edition of The Passage from Cemetery Dance. ( I don't want to get some of you riled up again, I'm not looking for opinions about Cemetery Dance, just this particular book.) I am thinking of buying one, but I've never been a big fan of "limited editions" that are little more than a regular book with an added signature sheet. When spending a lot money for a limited edition, I want a book that stands out as something different and special. The pictures I've seen of the book don't look that exciting, so I'm looking for some firsthand opinions. Also some of the copies I've seen for sale are with a slipcase, and some aren't. I don't remember what the story is about that. Any help?

I too have been thinking about picking up a S/L of The Passage, but I keep seeing how common signed first trade editions are, and so obviously I have been trying to decide between the two. Other than King, I have yet to collect any other author when it comes to secial editions of their books.
I do remember being offered The Passage from CD, and they offered a $35 discount vocher with it. So obviously it would have been a good purchase at the time.
The main thing that keeps me coming back to the S/L, is the possibility of completing a full set of matching numbers. Other than that major drawcard, I think a signed first edition would be just as good for my own collection.

Decisions, decisions...

I believe the slipcases were offered until they ran out of them. They weren't part of the original purchase price. I've got a slipcased one coming and will give my opinion on it when I receive it.

I have a copy of the s/l edition of The Passage and I really like it. The book itself is huge. The text block is very nicely done. The interior artwork pieces are very well done. Justin drew a map of the First Colony site which is neat, and he has a lot of photos at the end of the book which images of the sites that inspired locations in the book. For $75, I think it was a great buy if you're a fan of the book. I also bought the extra slipcase from CD when they offered it to me. They were left over from another project and they offered them to whoever pre-ordered the book.

I agree. It was a great buy for $75.00 and I am glad I ordered the slipcase. Don't know what they were leftover from but fit perfectly.

I don't know if this has ever been brought up here, but when I ordered my signed US trade edition (1/1) it had major printing errors soon after the second part started. I contacted my bookstore and got another signed 1/1 with correctly printed pages. Don't know if that wil be of any collecting interest in the future. I'm just glad so see a local author do well.

Do you have a specific page number for a printing error? I have the signed US and a trade US, but haven't read the book yet, so would like to check for the errors, just out of curiosity.
