Carrie and Salem's Lot Reprints?

I have a copy of each title that looks exactly like a first edition, first printing, except for the price. I seem to recall that someone reprinted these at one time, but I can't remember the particulars. Does anyone know the story behind these and do they have any sort of value?

Those are additional printings from the publisher. They have no REAL collectible value, but, because they have the same dust jacket art, they make a great space-saver until you can get a first! Doubleday, the publisher, doesn't use a numberline or anything like that so that you can determine which printing it is.

I have some reprints that look like the original edition also. My question is that the copies I have are 9.5 in tall and I was under the impression the the original first editions were 8.5 in tall. Is this correct? I thought that the first editions of Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining, Night Shift, and The Stand were all 8.5 in tall and The Dead Zone started the books that were 9.5 in tall. just checking so I know what I am looking for.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

You're right. Here's a PDF from King's offical site with measurements of the 1st editions, as well as other ways to tell a 1st edition

Also when you learn the other FIRST EDITION ID points to those books and jackets - such as the code in the lower left margin on the last page, and that jackets require a specific price and other items on them....you'll see that the reprints are quite different.

I have never found any reprint, repro, or later printing of Carrie measuring 8.5 in height, with $5.95 on the jacket, with text: First Edition on the last line in the CP page, and mostly- the code P6 in the margin on page 199.

Seen similar copies the same height, but that margin code was always different and the price on the jacket was either not there (old BOMC) or clipped off. Don't remember the CP Page and if it stated First Edition. Also the old BOMC paper and binding feel different. They are tighter bound and the pages are thinner. Put a 1st Edition and old BOMC together - they may be the same height but I noticed they are not as thick. You can tell.

The Stephen King Library makes their Doubleday repros too tall - jackets have no pricing, CP pages lack First Edition statement and add all this Doubleday address info, and have no margin code on pg199....

enjoy your searches!
