vikings use of multiple printers
After seeing the posts on here about Eyes of the Dragon and Misery having different printers listed on their copyrite pages I decided to check other Viking titles. After checking the couple of copies i have of each title I found they used multiple printers on Gerald's Game, Insomnia, and Rose Madder. I also noticed the potential for this to be the case with It, Needful Things, Dolores Claiborne, Nightmares & Dreamscapes, and Desperation. However the copies I have of these titles were printed at the same locations, I don't know what the situation would be with a sample size larger than 2 or 3 copies. My question is this. What constitutes different states of a book? Does having a variety of printers used on a book count, different colors of end papers (as in the post about Misery), or different cloth used in the binding ( see my post about Rose Madder). Please give your opinions.

If a book has different end papers, and/or different cloth boards, this would make them different 'states' of the first edition.ken wrote: My question is this. Collectors would be interested in obtaining each 'state'.

I agree. Just having different printers would not make a different state, but having different physical items would. As a completist, I don't know, though, if I would try to get a copy of each. Can you imagine asking over ebay about such matters as what type of cloth is used in the binding?

Re: vikings use of multiple printers
I have the first printing and also the Book Club edition of DOLORES CLAIBORNE, both bought at the books initial publication. The Book Club edition meets the criteria of the first edition, except for the Book Club dust jacket, which has no price.
The first edition was printed by Arcata Graphics, Fairfield. and has orange endpapers.
The Book Club edition was printed by R.R. Donelley and Sons
Company and has white endpapers.
Except for the differences noted above, both books are identical as far as I can tell.
