UK Edition - The Shining

Post by Silverhair390 »

I have just acquired a New English Library edition of "The Shining", not a first edition (6th impression).
The dust jacket has New English Library on it, the copyright page says it was published by New English Library, but the spine of the actual book has the BCA (Book Club Associates) logo on it.
Has anyone else come across this sort of thing?

Yes. BCA is the UK Book Club version. Their books are much smaller, and the paper quality is very poor, than the normal 1st editions. They are basically worthless.

The other Book Club in the UK is Guild Publishing. Their books are the same size as the originals.

Yes I know about that, I have been collecting King works for nearly 50 years.
The edition I have is a full size edition, I already have the smaller BCA copies.
It looks like it has been bound with the wrong cover, the inside, as shown on the copyright page is New English Library, ISBN-0-450-03220-5, as is the dust jacket, not CN1005 or CN9754, which are the book club numbers, but it has "BCA" on the actual binding.
It is not a Guild Publishing edition either as these also have CN numbers.
