Legacies, etc.

I'm not going to bag on CD books. Everyone knows their history for getting the cash and then waiting years before release on some titles. Legacies is one, Joe Lansdale's Horror Hall of Fame is another... With that said, I have a quick question.

I normally post on another board. Some may recognize me, and I see a few names I know from there posting here. I have asked this question there before, but it has been a while since that post, and after browsing the search function I did not see this question: Does anyone know anything about the delay in Legacies from CD?

At one point (5 years ago?) I heard a rumor of legal wrangling bogging the book down. I emailed Mindy at CD concerning the delay about a year back and got a schoolgirl giggle from her in response: "Legacies??? What's that? lol." That's not exactly the way I would answer someone if I held their cash in hand on a book that has been held up for 10+ years, but whatever.

So, back to the question(s). Does anyone have any info at all on the status of the book? Why it has been delayed? Or why they can't tell us or update the site to let everyone know what is going on?

Granted, I got two free books for my "patience" many years ago, but the lack of communication has driven me to not buy anything else (Sec. of Dreams excluded, of course ;) ) from them simply because I can't get a straight answer, or any answer.

Hi Royal. The last I heard, the book was held up, as you said, by legal wrangling. I'll be surprised if it will ever be published.

I do have a proof copy of that volume, though. Both the copyright page and the title page are dated with the year 2000. Here's a picture:

Here's a list of the Table of Contents:

"One For The Road" by Stephen King
"Black River" by Dean Koontz
"Age Of Desire" by Clive Barker
"Final Rites" by Ray Bradbury
"Mute" by Richard Matheson
"The Dripping" by David Morrell
"Mr. Clubb And Mr. Cuff" by Peter Straub
"Skeleton In My Closet" by Robert Bloch
"Broxa" by William F. Nolan
"The Man With The Hoe" by George Clayton Johnson

Honestly, anyone who has this on order should get a refund. It will never be published, and its sickening that CD doesn't just admit that fact and refund their customers.

John, thanks again for the info and the confirmation about the legal stand-off. Call me naive, but I can't see how a legal back and forth on something like this can gum up the works for so long. Guess I should have went for the JD degree instead of the business degree.

P.S.,

Nice to see someone I know got the ARC/proof.
