Showcase your SK collectibles!

I had a spare moment yesterday evening and I thought I'd take some photos of our (King) bookshelves. Quality is not the best (flashlight glare) but anyway...

Top shelf from left to right: US Creepshow, The Stand comic hardcover, three hardcover volumes of The Dark Tower comics, a couple of DT comic paperbacks and the SK Batman issue. Then the Grant Dark Tower books: The Gunslinger 1st/2nd, Drawing of the Three 2nd and 1st, Waste Lands 1st, Wizard & Glass 1st, Dark Tower VII Artist Edition. All Viking reissues (1sts, except for DT I), followed by the last three DT books (Grant, 1sts). Lastly: UK DT 1sts (trade paperbacks). Bottom shelf: UK hardcovers, all 1sts/1sts except Carrie and one of the two Bachman Books copies. Danse Macabre is a 1st/1st rebound in red leather which makes it have curiosity value rather than monetary value.

Two shelves with the remaining UK 1st/1sts. Two variants of Rose Madder, with different endpapers and DJ flap text, and of course the two Black House variant covers. On the right of the bottom shelf a King-omnibus, the smaller 1st/1st trade HCs, and the 1st trade PBs of Danse Macabre and Cycle of the Werewolf.

Top shelf: UK The Green Mile, four out of six booklets. The four original UK Bachman paperbacks, and the King Etc. excerpt booklet. Stacked on the top shelf, from top to bottom: UK partial proofs of Black House and The Stand, and full proofs of Hearts in Atlantis and Gerald's Game. Lying in front of this little stack are the two Umney's Last Case variants (black and white). The remainder of the top shelf and the complete middle shelf: the gorgeous UK NEL paperbacks from the nineties. Unfotunately, not all titles have been issued in this same, colourful format... there is still one I've seen that I don't own yet, but otherwise I think I have the complete set. More power to paperbacks! ;) Bottom shelf (and one below that, not shown on picture): thrashed reading copies for travelling etc.

Top shelf: the rest of the UK Dark Tower hardcovers 1sts, followed by some limited gift editions (I don't own any King signatures, nor am I planning to get any): Cycle of the Werewolf, The Talisman/Black House, Little Sisters of Eluria, Desperation, From A Buick 8, Insomnia, Just After Sunset, Lisey's Story, The Dead Zone, The Talisman (two-volume set), and the three Colorado Kid trade variants. Bottom shelf: US 1sts (except 'Salem's Lot and Bachman Books which are later printings). Obviously, some of these older books (Danse Macabre, Christine, Skeleton Crew, The Bachman Books, Eyes of the Dragon) show various degrees of DJ damage. These are some of the very first books I purchased via eBay and at the time I didn't know anything about DJ condition, 1st editions ectetera. I just bought some cheap US hardcovers and didn't really care. I will be upgrading them in the near future, however.

The remaining US 1sts, including the Insomnia and Rose Madder variants. Last bookin line: UTD hardcover ARC (my US trade is currently shipped by Amazon). The cardboard tube contains spare DJs (Desperation gift edition, Wizard and Glass Grant DJ, Desperation and Regulators proof DJs, and the Christine and Firestarter S/L Djs). I'm still contemplating framing some of them! As you can see, the one glaring hole in my trade HC collection is... Faithful!

Top shelf: limited gift edition of The Green Mile. Stacked on the right: 'Salem's Lot limited, Secretary of Dreams vol. I, and My Pretty Pony (Ned Dameron's Waste Lands portfolio squezed in between the top two). Bottom shelf: US proofs of The Stand, Rose Madder, Drawing of the Three, Lisey's Story, Bag of Bones and On Writing. In the middle: ABA proof of Gerald's Game, a Startling Mystery Stories magazine (containing The Reaper's Image) from 1969. Standing in the back: TGWLTG popup-book. On the right of this shelf: 1st edition trade paperbacks of The Green Mile, three of the four US Bachman titles (Roadwork is on its way as we speak), LT's Theory of Pets (courtesy of Ralph Mulleins!! who included this as a small present when I bought some books of his), Colorado Kid, Green Mile omnibus, Bachman Books, Cycle of the Werewolf, Silver Bullet, Midlife Confidential. And an ARC of Joe Hill's Heart Shaped Box, and a UK trade paperback of the same title.

Top shelf: books on King, concordances etc. Leaning to the left one part of the Japanese two-volume Cell. Stacked, from top to bottom: two French King hardcovers, and some more books on King (including Bev's wonderful Illustrated Companion). To the right: the first three Dutch DT books. Bottom two shelves: the remnants of my Dutch King collection. I'm keeping these oldies for nostalgic reasons, but I'm selling the rest. On the far right, a German hardcover edition of The Shining.

... and while I was typing this, my US trade HC of UTD was delivered! I got the gray-lettered DJ variant and I love it!! It's now sitting on the shelf next to the UTD hardcover ARC...

... just because I felt like it, on a rainy Dutch Sunday afternoon...

The Stand: two copies of the UK 1st/1st (one with spine wrinkles and tears, in protected DJ, the other one a lot better but not unscathed, either) and two copies of the US 1st/1st.
The Stand, Complete & Uncut: UK 1st/1st and US 1st/1st, US Doubleday full proof, and UK Hodder & Stoughton partial proof.

I also have the Dutch trade paperback editions (original and uncut) and a beautiful NEL paperback book (uncut) but I didn't want to crowd the picture too much... ;)

* edit * I'm haunted by the idea that all these books together, although expensive enough, aren't worth even half of what the Stand S/L costs... and to think that I want to have that one as well... someday.

Very impressive biomieg! I especially like your UK books, because since the death of Kenneth Slater at Fantast I have not found a reliable source for Brithish hardcovers and paperbacks. You have an amazing collection. I will start putting some pics of my own up here later, of course! Thanks again!

Thanks a lot :) I look forward to seeing your collection here, you own pretty much every English-language King 1st edition hardback and paperback (which is great, I think!), many elusive proofs and also almost every S/L known to man! And everything in mint condition, too!

Ok it may be time to stop reading Sk for a bit again.

I am getting a "What if?" moment going with all you collectors and all the books you own. Like they come alive one day and swallow you whole...

But Christine, that's why we collectors glue our books to the bookshelves, didn't you know? ;)

LOL

As to my collection it isn't that great as to warrant a mention here, haven't even completed the 1/1 US editions yet and I really need to rearrange my shelves, some are in piles on the floor now. EEK!

Got to kick the hubby's computer books off some more shelves, hopefullly he doesn't change jobs again cause there is really not going to be room for him to bring them all home again.

Well, I happen to believe that any collection is worth showing, because they are manifestations of our love for books. It's not a competition, you know? My collection isn't spectacular either, no S/Ls, not all my books are in mint condition, but hey... Who cares? :)
