Hi guys,
I've been told there are heaps of fake .king signatures out there. My few signed ones are from Betts, or I have bought the, directly from the publisher.
I've come across one that looks a bit funky. Some of king signatures I've seen from publishers can very a bit, obviously the last 150 signatures are a nightmare to pump out.
What are your thoughts on this signature?

That signature is a very, very, very bad effort at forgery.

Very bad fake. There are a lot of stop/start points there.

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of my own to ask about. I am probably one of the few collectors who in general is not interested in autographs, however if a book has a signature or inscription, and isn't priced more then compairable options of the same book without a signature, then I wouldn't necesarrily pass it up.

For instance this first one is a signature of Berni Wrightson in the Cycle of the Werewolf which I bought a couple of months ago. I don't think I paid extra for it, considering the nice condition of the book. But on the other hand if a forgery devalues a book, then I guess I would want to know.

The second photo is of an extra inscription in "Six Stories" which I haven't purchased yet, but wanted to make sure it is not a forgery first. It is selling for less then many copies without an inscription.

(sorry, think the tool is going to reverse the order I uploaded the pictures)

Thanks,
Mike

The Six Stories looks okay to me. I'm not a Bernie Wrightson fan, so I have no opinion on that one.

The six stories inscription is perfect.

Make sure it is numbered. Unnumbered copies fetch less.

The Wrightson signature is good too.

Thank John and RT.

I wasn't aware that some of them where unnumbered. Can you give more details on this? Are these extra copies not part of the 900 Arabic numbered or 200 roman numbered copies. Or did they just not number some of these? What is the value difference between numbered and unnumbered?

It just says it is one of 1100 numbered copies.

They were probably extras that were done by Philtrum in case any of the numbered editions were damaged. The numbered are more valuable than those unnumbered. I don't have a good idea on the value difference, however, because so few of either show up.

Every publisher, of every limited edition book, prints several more to cover damages/losses etc. Usually this is around 50 copies, but it could be a lot more. You just have to believe what the publisher tells you.
