Hey Folks,

Starting up the thread on CD's anniversary edition announcement. All Future books in the series should go under this thread

===========
We've signed an exclusive deal to produce a six volume set of special collectible editions of Stephen King's early books that were originally published by Doubleday back in the 1970s and early 1980s! These books are Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, Night Shift, The Stand, and Pet Sematary, six classics of the horror genre and all-time Stephen King fan favorites!
The editions are as follows:
* Deluxe Slipcased Gift Edition ($85)
* Deluxe Traycased Artist Edition ($225)
* Deluxe Traycased Artist LETTERED Edition ($1000)
===========

Since none of these are signed by King I expect them to go the way of many gift editions and sell for 50-80% of retail on the secondary market after release. I could be wrong but I'm basing this off the resale prices of King gift editions, books about King, and other King related titles that all are not signed by King.

Ordering and info link HERE- Also I've heard that these will be numbered so you can get a matching numbered set over time if you'd like.

I'll be curious to see how long it takes before these sell out, but personally I won't be placing an order for this title at retail.

$1000 for a book that's not signed by Stephen King? Are there people who will buy this? Why?

I've become so disillusioned with CD that I won't even consider pre-ordering from them anymore. The last book I bought and pre-ordered from them was the IT 25th, but that's my all time favorite King novel.

Looks like there were at least 52 that bought, as the lettered edition is sold out. We'll see how fast the limited and gift sells out - that'll be a good indication of what it's going to do on the secondary market.

While I agree about $1000 for a non-signed book, it sold out in less than an hour, so somebody must want them.

You could always do what I do … buy CD gift certificates during the 50% off sale and then use them for these limited editions: that way you're paying 50% of retail and you're not taking your chances on the resale market.

Just out of curiosity, why are you disillusioned with CD?

Thanks.

Without King's signature, I think they're overpriced. I understand the reasoning behind pricing them like this, but I just can't bring myself to order them.

If CD decides to do an art portfolio I'd be all for that!

Actually King items are pretty much never allowed any discounts. For example if you check the notes on this book you'll see their usual King disclaimer.

Unfortunately, savings certificates, store credit, special offers, or other discounts cannot be applied to this item, and this item cannot be used to qualify for any special offer or discount or deal. If you are a retailer, please note that standing orders do not apply for this item — you need to email our office for more information

savings certificates (discounts) are a no … but gift certificates are a yes:

These Cemetery Dance Gift Certificates are good for essentially any book, magazine, work of art, or other collectible we sell in our online store including books from other publishers, special offers like our famous Grab Bags, and even books by authors such as Stephen King, Peter Straub, William Peter Blatty, Justin Cronin, and many others!

it has been my experience, including my order for Carrie two hours ago, that gift certificates can be used on anything but gift certificates.

additionally, members of the cemetery dance collectors club were provided with a discount coupon which does work on these king books, which was a nice added bonus.

thanks.

Well color me surprised!

Thanks for the information about the Gift Certificates, when I saw "savings certificates" in the disclaimer I thought that's what they were referring to, but if you were able to snag a copy of Carrie with one I might have to look at getting a few the next time they have one of their 50% sales going on.

Just out of curiosity, how much was the coupon for?

I am disappointed that Stephen King didn't sign the Lettered Edition. I did, however, purchase it because the book is by Stephen King and there are only 52 in the whole world.

the discount coupon was for 10% … not much, but members will most likely get one for each of the books, plus we get similar, or even greater discounts, throughout the year. in addition, we get the following:

1) an exclusive SIGNED LIMITED EDITION HARDCOVER called A Good Story and Good Words: The Many Worlds of Stephen King

This title has been designed, is headed out for the first round of proofreading, and will be published in 2014. Many of you have asked if there will be a trade edition because you don't want to handle your Limited Edition and we're pleased to report there will be a trade hardcover that is published after the Limited Edition. You will also receive an exclusive discount on the trade hardcover when it is formally announced.

2) a brand new Signed Limited Edition hardcover that will be sold to the general public for a retail price of $30 to $40 -- but members of the CDCC will get it for FREE

This title is being designed next month and will be published in the 2014. It has NOT been officially announced yet, but we will email you before the announcement so you know you're already getting a free copy.

the club cost $120 for the year and, just as an example, we were sent 125 emails during the previous year's CDCC which included discounts ranging from 10%-25% on books that are otherwise not discounted plus exclusive or advanced notice of special offers, including UK books, etc. all in all, it's a pretty good deal. and, i paid for the CDCC with a gift certificate that i purchased at 50% off!

thanks.
