When I get my 700-copy edition, I'll post all five UK (trade, Waterstones, WH Smith, 200-copy and 700-copy) editions together.

Claiming ignorance here, but would the Waterstones edition have a different ISBN than the other editions? Sorry about all the questions?

They both have the same ISBN. I just checked my copy. The WH Smith copy also has the same ISBN.

Looks like I have found a copy of the Waterstones edition. Thank you all who helped and were willing to look for the book for me.

Hi Bob
Glad you've found a copy.

As for the ISBNs being all the same - I read in the Independent Newspaper earlier in the year reporting on a battle between UK large chain bookstores, with especially Waterstones having copies of their order of 1st editions printed with extras to encourage customers to buy from their stores. I've seen extras such as deleted chapters (Justin Cronin), extra short stories (Philip Pullman, Terry Pratchett) and other bonus materials such as correspondence between authors (Stephen Baxter and Terry Pratchett) and authors notes (Stephen King). These are a variant / different state of the first edition and produced in large numbers as they are the ONLY first edition version of the book at the Waterstones' bookstores offered for sale.

WHSmith versions are less prolific and they tend to sell versions of first edition books with a different dust jacket (Stephen King, James Herbert). They do not stock the normal covered book and are again produced in large numbers, even though they say it is a limited edition book! This is not a limited edition in WHSmiths as it is the only version of Doctor Sleep they sell!

So the Trade, Waterstones and WHSmith versions are just variants / States of the same 1st edition (WHSmith versions are probably less numerous as they only seem to be published as first printings), hence the same ISBN. The ISBNs are the same with the Black and the White dust jackets of 1st edition of The Black House. The publishers probably love this, as mugs like me buy three different versions of the same 1st edition, where I would just buy one copy if there was only one version.

I'm one of those mugs too. I'm buying UK and US versions. So I may be a bigger mug. I think for Dr. Sleep I have 9 books. 5 UK and 4 US. I'm such a sucker. Lol

Where do you find the bookshelf space?!!
Apart from the five UK editions, i'm only getting the US CD S/L.
I've tried the limit myself to UK firsts and US firsts if no UK hardback, UK limiteds, UK + US S/L, and occasional lettered if you don't need a mortgage.
I will struggle for space if this trend continues with these numerous UK editions.

I have (or will have) much the same as these, except I'm still looking for a signed trade US edition. I'm also looking for both the US and UK proofs. I have a CD proof.

(The joys of being a completist!)
