I haven't got a picture of the 2nd printing I sold, but here is a second printing on ebay.

I am not sure where I read it either but I believe the picture Lurker shows is a later edition. I had read that the ones that state "Printed in Japan" at the bottom of the copyright page are not first editions. I will look thru my records and see if I can find the source of my information.

i think that clears up what i need to know.

i thought i would include it in my king collection. if it has a remainder mark i am not interested. i have noticed there are allot of them with it.

as it stands i only need one more FE to complete my set. A good Night Shift at a fair price is hard to find. thx everyone. all hail the king !!

You will find that Viking Press does not always put a printing line in most of there 1st Editions but will put printed in 1988 or just FIRST EDITION and then in the 2nd edition will put the printing line 2 3 4 5 ect. Something I just noticed there is a # on the bottom right hand corner of the dustjacket 10240088 could this mean Oct 24 1988 and did this # change on the 2nd edition?The printed in Japan does not make it a 2nd edition. Anyone who is a collector of modern 1st Editions needs to have a copy of FIRST EDITIONS A GUIDE TO IDENTIFICATION by Edward N Zempel & Linda A Verkler.

I have seen somewhere that there is suppose to have been a numberline 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. The copy that says japan is imported from japan but not a first edition? Im not sure if this is true or not, I dont have a copy of this yet and want to buy one but only want a first edition. Can you tell me what the true first is?
